I finally had a sunny trail ride yesterday. It was so nice. The wild flowers are blooming and most of the wet mush is gone. We only ran into a bicycler. That was the biggest excitement for the day. I even gave him a quick bath.

I cannot wait until bath day! I am one of those who likes clean, shiny horses. On days I dont feel like riding, there is nothing greater than a few hours spent grooming and spiffing up, just to watch them roll two minutes later and ruin your hours of hard work So worth it I decided this year I am buying one of those portable tankless water heaters. They are about 125, and that way I can give warm water baths!! Im excited about that!! Im sure my guys will appreciate it too!

Good for you! I'm waiting for bath day until my new clippers arrive. I want to do the whole schmo at the same time. They should be here any day. I got a great deal on them through ebay--brand new Oster A5s--2 speed--and quiet. I'm excited to get them!! I also ordered fly predators this year. I've been a bit lazy on the trail riding though--most of my time has been spent working with the mustang on the ground, cleaning stalls, and rotating horses from pasture to pasture. I need to switch gears.
I like the sounds of that portable water tank!!

Oh, one of those heaters is on my wish list for my birthday! Not only for the horses, but with 6 dogs, I would love to have a bath area set up outside for them (to save my poor bathroom, LOL!).

I love this time of year. Getting out for the first few warm rides and planning all the fun stuff to do over the next few months. It's great.
Has anyone ever tried one of those black plastic camp showers for a horse bath? I guess it might not be enough water for a bath, but maybe two of them would do the trick... I've been thinking about trying that for sheath cleaning. I almost never bathe my horses but Tonka needs his sheath cleaned a lot and it's hard to rinse.

I have four big hairy dogs, so its definitely going to be used for them too! Im building a bench for them to stand on so I dont have to kill my back bending over em too! I never thought about the camp showers, I suppose it would work for just sheath cleaning or spot cleaning. I cant imagine it would be enough to bathe a whole horse, at least not the way I do it, lol. I need some clippers. I have been meaning to get a good set, I just have a couple cheap sets that I use for the whiskers and bridlepath, but It would be nice to have a NICE set that I can do the dogs as well as the horses

I have had a few good rides on the trails this spring before I get so busy with racing! The other day while out riding with the neighbor we came upon 4 Elk! My horse does pretty good with seeing th Elk but if we come upon any Moose I need to hang on! He does not like Moose and a couple weekends ago at a barrel race my horse, Que, is just pacing and looking back into the trees. I thought he was just being a brat because I saw something back there and I thought it was someone on there horse. Well a few minutes later I turned around and here comes this Moose from back there right to where we were all parked with our trailers! I could not get Que untied fast enough because the Moose was too close for him! One of my friends video taped the Moose as it walked down the edge of the field and back into the trees.

We ran across an Elk cow and calf a few years ago. She spooked, ran over her calf and he was knocked out in the middle of the trail. Our horses were really good, we just walked around him and got away. We figured the cow was nearby and she was probably waiting for us to leave before going back to her calf. I sure hope he turned out ok! I hope to never see a Moose up close.... maybe from a distance, but please oh please not up close. Scares me! *LOL*
