Hi guys... I'm going to look at a horse for Alexa tomorrow. Send good judgment thoughts to me please!
Alexa sold Gulliver last year with the intention of taking over Danny (my QH gelding) so we could cut down on our numbers, and also because Gulliver really needed a lighter duty job (he was an ex-roping horse with pelvic problems).
She was going to take Danny, and I was just going to ride my 22-year-old Arab until he is ready to retire.
Well, so much for best-laid plans. A few weeks ago she announced that she will never feel like Danny is "her horse" because I raised him from a baby and he is rather bonded to me. Plus, he is only 5, and while she rides him just fine without any problems, I think she is a little bit timid about him being young and green.
We are going to look at a 13-year-old gelding that is boarded at Busy Bee right now. He has been owned by a 12-year-old girl for the past few years who has lost interest, and mom is tired of paying board bills.
So, wish us luck! Or, if any of you know of any other safe, sane horses around looking for a home, let us know.

Cool, let us know how it turns out. I seen a horse on Craigslist that is drop dead gorgeous, he's a big QH gelding like Gulliver. Beautiful copper chestnut with a bit of chrome. I think he's a friend of mine's horse, but haven't confirmed that yet. Check him out: spokane.craigslist.org/grd/1713805809.html

Thanks -- I saw that one, but that is a bit (or a lot) out of our price range! Alexa spent some of her money that she got for Gulliver on the Golden Retriever puppy, and we can't help her add to her funds at this point, so she is pretty limited.
I would really just like her to stick with the original plan, as I think she's going to be plenty busy with cheerleading next year, and then she'll be in college and even more busy, so I haven't really been encouraging adding another horse to our herd.
But then....this horse came up, and it's in her price range. We actually looked at one last weekend that was in her price range too, but he turned out to be either green or ill-trained or both, and she hopped off and said, "Nope." So, I'm glad that she at least knows what her comfort level is and doesn't get caught up in just "getting a new horse."

I agree with you Laura, that gelding I posted is WAY out of my range too. I can also see what you mean about Alexa being busy, but Alexa is a true horsey girl and I'm sure she'll find time to be with the horses too. And most cheerleading (how fun!) events are during the cold season, so she probably wouldn't be doing a lot of riding anyway.

Sounds like it could be a good one if he's been owned by a twelve year old--good luck!
