I had my yearling out to learn about hotwire fences and she was hanging out with my appy mare.
All was ok, until I tried to halter the appy, who jumped. The yearling has not been with any other horses and she thought Koot, the app, was coming to kill her.
She hopped sideways and landed on a chainlink fence. As she wiped that out, she took the t-post down that it was attached to. She hopped again and landed with the T-post right in her belly. In a split second I was calculating how best to hold her down until the vet could get there to put her down. I thought for sure she was going to sink that post all the way into her belly.
Somehow, her hind feet landed on the top of the chain-link again which folded and she was able to jump up and off the post before she came all way down on it.
She opened herself a bit right in her belly button in that super soft skin. Its about an inch wide and an inch or so long, although not deep at all. Thankfully it seems as though she just cut the skin. The muscle does not feel torn and as of today it is not hot or swollen. It was immediately flushed, and sprayed with schreiners (the only thing I had on hand).
I went and got some penn. and a tetanus shot. This happened on Friday, and today she is still good. it didnt bleed but a few drops to begin with and it looks as if its mostly covered at this point. Unfortunately, the spray does sting, so any time I even try to look at it now she gets to kicking, thinking im going to spray her again. She took her shots like a champ tho.
Goofy filly. Shes turning into a nice little horse. I will need to get updated pics of them here soon. We get into our new place this next weekend and are moving the horses the weekend after. Cant wait!
