Between flaggings of my posts warning about an unscrupulous older "gentleman" in the Spokane area who wheels and deals horses using the line that he is the "70 year old owner/trainer", I have received responses from others who have been snookered by this guy. Following are excerpts from those emails:
Hello!
I have also had a run-in with Mr. McGivern...a few years back he was selling a registered paint gelding which i called about. He stated I could come see the horse anytine, but then stipulated that I had to give him an hour's notice before coming...a friend of mine (who is by the way a very HONEST horse buyer and seller...she does a lot of rescues on her own nickel and finds the horses the very best homes she can---anyway, she warned me to be careful and not to let him know I was coming or he'd Ace the horse....I did as she said and he turned me away, said he had another person with an appointment so they were seeing the horse first. I looked at the horse, who was pretty wound up and a little wild-eyed. I came back about an hour and a half later, and the horse was standing there saddled, bridled and drugged. he did the same iwth me, insisting that I couldn't ride the horse until I bought it for liability issues. He offered to ride it and it was immediately apparent that the horse had been drugged, and staggered around half groggy. I told him I would think about it and left; he said fine, he had many other people interested in the horse. Then came the phone calls!! he called me and asked if i was still going to buy the horse and when. I told him I'd decided against it, and he went OFF!! Stated that I had ruined the sales he could have had since he was holding the horse for me!! I told him I had asked him to do no such thing, and if the horse was so popular he would have no problem selliing if, but he continued to call me once or twice a week stating that I was responsible to buy that horse. I finally said :LOOK! I AM NOT BUYING A HORSE FROM YOU!! THE HORSE WAS DRUGGED AND I AM NOT INTERESTED!!! So he called me a bitch and hung up on me, and that was the last I heard from him.

Just thought I'd let you know your not the only one to be screwed by Jim. I bought a Pinto gelding from him for $1250, who he had refused to let me vet check(shoulda been a warning to me, duh.) Who turned out to have severe lameness problems. He had to be euthanized, and of course, I'm now out the money. Thanks for letting everyone know about this dishonest ass.
********
My goal is that he never again profits from another horse!
