Hey all, I live in the sunny Columbia Basin. I work as a home health care provider, and my husband drives semi, stacks big bales, and we help family with their wheat straw baling and cattle business. I JUST got my first hypoallergenic curly mare, I am allergic to horses... a curse I know.

Welcome Kim, glad you came to check out the forum. I think you should tell everyone more about your new mare, or at least copy and paste what you explained on the NWFR site. I know I was telling one of my friends on in this group about her and she was intrigued! Alisa

Copied from another forum
They are hypo-allergenic (not meaning non allgergenic, but meaning from less of a reaction to none... hope that makes sense... ) they think, not officially proven, because they have a different protein in their DNA. Resulting in different protein hair make up. Their hair is hallow like angora wool, have a different dander, and different oils in their skin and more of it. Some use curly horse hair for spinning. There are different types of curls also, from extreme that keeps a "crushed velvet" coat during the summer, some shed all their mane and tail in spring, quite a few don't, and look like sheep in winter with hair up to 4" long, medium (like my mare) in the summer keep a curly to wavy hair in their ears, mane/tail, and legs, and a straight curly that looks a lot like a normal straight horse all year... sometimes are not as hypo allergenic. They are known to be hardy in the winter, since they have more hair, and are typically really easy keepers.
Many were found wild with the mustangs, but really are a 57 since it's not really a breed, but a type of coat. Have lots of the old Morgan, Quarters, Arabs, and now warmbloods. Many are out crossing with the current breeds to avoid inbreeding since the gene pool is small for many curly to curly breeding. Several curly registries still have open stud books, and a few have closed them.

That makes sense. I have curly hair, maybe I'm hypo-allergenic. just kidding. I had no idea they were wild. My mustang gets curly hair on the backs of her legs like that.

Are you going on the trip to cle elm? I can't remember the name of course I'm really really bad with names.
