My sister and I are both professional artists. I work in Graphite, Colored pencil, and Acrylics. I specialize in portraits of animals & people. Any breed, any size! I am also a sculptor. Two of my sculptures are pictured below in my flickr, and I am in the process of getting photos of one more. These were based off of real horses--so if you'd like a sculpture of one of your horses, I also can do that. Below is some of my art: Here's my paintings--the horse I finished over a year ago. The snow one I finished in 08--all the snow, and the tree shadows and the snow on the trees is painted with metallics, so it looks different from every angle, and is very difficult to capture on camera. And now my drawings: The drawing below won first place in my age category in the North West Horse Magazine in 2008.

Very beautiful drawings!
Just a thought -- Have you thought about looking at an Arabian tree rather than semi-QH bars? I have two Arabians, and while their chests are narrower, the top of their scapulae (shoulders) flare out, making saddle fit a royal pain! Plus, their shorter backs make it so that some of the square-skirted western saddles rub too close to their hip bones. The Arabian treed western saddles usually have more flare in the shoulders, plus a shorter rock and a smaller, rounded skirt.

Thank you so much Linda!!
Thanks so much Laura! I have thought of Arab trees, but I wasn't sure if it'd be what I need. Some people have told me the arab trees don't fit all arabs very well, because the flare in the shoulders is quite a bit, so I don't know yet if that will fit my mare or not. I definitely would love to try one on her, and I should add that possibility to my original post too. Thank you!

Here's some of my photoshop pieces-- The first image (oceansunset) I removed his halter; The second photo I removed halters and dirt and tangled mane on both horses; Third one was just a background removal/inserting him into water; last photo included reconstructing his muzzle which was hidden in the original, and tail reconstruction. www.flickr.com/photos/el_bey_angel/sets/72157624360037842/detail/

The horses in the heart with the waterfall cut-out is really cool! I love the way their necks arch like a heart, too.

Yes, you really just have to try them on to check fit properly -- that goes for any breed, but Arabs seem to be even a little more challenging. I ended up going treeless and buying my Barefoot saddle just for that reason - NOTHING fit my older Arabian. Now I have no worries whatsoever about saddle fit. I just found this pressure point scan on the Barefoot saddle site that shows the difference in pressure points on the horse's back between the treeless saddle and a western saddle -- quite interesting! www.barefootsaddles.net/scans.htmLove the sunset picture and the waterfall picture too!

Thanks Linda! That was the idea of the lady who owns both horses--I'm very happy with how that came out. Definitely so! Yes they can be more challenging for sure. I've been told there are a few brands who's semi QH bar saddles seem to fit arabs pretty well, Circle Y being one, and crates being another. We'll see.... Thanks again Laura!

Updating this posting, adding more of my drawings! Here's my newest ones: First of all, this I just finished today; a colored pencil portrait of Angel & my brother Jordan. On my flickr there is a link to the original photo as well. Back to graphite for a minute! This is a bay Friesian mare named Music: And this is a black pinto TWH named Glory. This was done as a companion piece to the Missouri Fox trotter in one of my above posts. I combined two photos and a bit of artistic license to this. I also revisited and heavily updated my drawing of Brad Paisley, and re-added it to my first post. That's all for now! I will have my drawings with me today at the stallion showcase.

Adding some of my latest I realized I hadn't put here yet! Colored pencil trio portrait-- the dark bay and the center horse are both TB's, the bay on the right is an Arab. Colored pencil purebred Cocker Spaniel: Graphite of a Selle Francais who lives in NY, with 'his' kitty: This one was tough. I drew it from an avatar sized photo, which I do NOT like to do, as it is much harder to see details on something that small. BUT it turned out nicely and this horses' owner is very pleased. Graphite portrait of a young boy:
