Hello! I live in Clayton, WA, and six horses live here with me. I have an 8-year-old palomino Quarter Horse mare, an 11-year-old blue roan Appaloosa mare, and a surprise half-pony weanling out of the palomino mare. My dear friend Jo keeps her 4-year-old chocolate Kentucky Mountain Horse mare here along with her 11-year-old buckskin mustang mare and a surprise Appaloosa filly out of the mustang mare. My poor husband grumbled about one horse, then two, then three, then four, and then discovered the half-pony filly at 7 a.m. in the pitch dark of January this year. The Appaloosa filly arrived on May 14th, but we'd had her dam pregnancy checked when we began to suspect...so at least Willow was not quite the surprise that Gemma was! Jo & I rode quite a bit many years ago and are just getting back into the swing of things. I'm happy to have discovered this board today and look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi Shay, Nice to meet you! ... Have you desensitized your husband yet? Curious, how did you find this board?

Thank you for the welcome . Definitely need to get some miles on these guys, since we haven't been able to do much what with last winter and the foals. Still working on desensitizing my husband but he really likes the blue roan mare so might be able to get him out on her soon. ;D I found this group because of Missile Site in Deer Park. I've heard that Deer Park is looking to sell the property and some horse people are starting a letter-writing campaign to have the property declared for conservation. A friend of mine asked why it was called Missile Site so I Googled for some links to send her. One of the links traced back to an April 2010 conversation on this board...and here I am!

Nice to meet you! I got a letter about the Missile Site area--I'll paste it into here in case anyone wants to write a letter:
I am not sure if you, or anyone you know, have ridden the Missile Site Trail system on the Deer Park Milan Rd just east of Deer Park. The 500 acre property belongs to Deer Park but is managed by the DP Airport and has been developed into a trail system that is used early in the year by horsemen (snow melts early and is sandy so no shoes needed) and all year by other activities including cross country skiing in the winter.
The city of DP is now wanting to sell the acreage or use it for industrial development. It is being nominated for the Conservation Futures program and we need letters of support that indicate the purchase of the property for continued recreation is backed by the community and those who use it. Some key points: It is close to many of us, easy access from the road, mostly flat, sandy, easy terrain and it does not border water but as an open space allows wildlife access through development down to the West Branch of the Little Spokane River.

Hi Shay: I live on the West Plains - Cheney area, but am brand new to this forum group and looking forward to meeting everyone. I used to have foals also - they are such a treasure, especially waking up one morning and there he/she is, a darling foal. Ooh, gives me goose bumps.
