I've heard there's an equine chiropractor/massage therapist in Deer Park. Does anyone know who that is? Or if there's more than one in the Spokane area?
My 11-year-old Quarter Horse mare seems sound and fine, but tends to flinch more & be a tiny bit difficult to saddle & mount since she had her surprise pony foal. When I'm riding behind her I can see that her left hip doesn't rise quite as much as the right, and my trainer friend that was on her said she can feel a difference, as if something's not quite right...
Thanks! --Kris

I know there is the vet/chiropractor in Spokane that I have heard travels to Deer Park. Her name is Dr. Porter. I have a chiropractor coming to my place on Friday to work on my horse. He is moving to Chewelah and will be available. His name is Doug Smith. If you want to come and watch him work on my horse on Friday or find out what I thought of him or bring your horse here to be worked on, you can email me or call 509-690-8022. My horse has a problem in the hips and I am hoping he can straighten her out. Susan

That would be SO great!! I would really appreciate coming to watch because although I have a longtime chiropractor for myself, I am new to it in horses. I work 7 - 4 on Friday though so if he's coming in that time frame, maybe Jo could come out instead of me?
Is also a thought to bring Summer to your place, if Doug wouldn't mind. Roughly where are you? Summer's in Clayton with me, Jo lives in Colbert.

I live in Chewelah. I have not made the appt yet as Doug is in Montana and will be back Thurs evening. I was hoping to make an appt for 1:30 or 2. Here is his website and you can see if it sounds interesting and you could contact him directly to see if he would have time to work on your horse that day. www.doubletreeequineclinics.com/home.htmlDoug says he charges $75 He does energy balancing which I am not sure what that is but my friend was really impressed when she saw he did that. I hope he is good as he just bought a house in Chewelah and that would be so great to have him here for "tune ups". Susan

I've had Krist Porter DVM, work on mare before. I really like her, but she is more expensive than price quoted by Doug. But then again she is a Vet. She does chiropractor work. I also know a couple of Equine Massage therapist in the North Spokane area. I haven't used either one, but have heard good things about them. let me know if you want any of their numbers.

Thank you again Susan but darn the luck, neither of us can make it to Chewelah Friday. Still, I would love to know how it all goes. His website is great.
I hope everything goes great and your horse is back to 100% normal!
Please let us know how it goes??

Also meant to say could I please have the numbers of the north Spokane massage therapists, just in case? Not sure if these folks all charge mileage (in this day & age I'd think they would) so would like to have some options. Thanks!

Veterinary Chiropracter- Krista Porter DVM 208-651-0973, she's out of Post Falls but travels all over. Equine Massage: Lynn Johnson 994-6393 or Phyllis Ray 710-2938.
I have not used either of the massage therapist, but have heard good things about both of them.

just wanted to give an FYI since I saw this subject come up...
We use Dr Krista Porter here for our stables for all our Chiropractic needs. She's not super cheap to get out- but it's important to get someone that knows your horse holistically and medically.
Also - keep in mind that it's ILLEGAL in WA state (and many others) to claim to be an equine chiropractor or dentist if you're NOT a vet.
Many states already "crackdown" on this - and WA state has been moving towards that for some time.
As someone that has always used chiro/vets I think it's a smart way to regulate. There are too many "whacks" out there making claims with no factual basis...

At Free Rein we use Erica Curless for massage - her company is Dog and Pony Show; she was at Ride the West last year and travels in the area. We've had good success. I don't have the contact info with me but you could Google it...
