Am wondering if anyone has more information on Calispell Peak in Chewelah. There's an all-day group trail ride planned for Aug. 21st, meeting at the park in Chewelah, I think. Can't find very specific directions to Calispell Peak, so not sure how far it is from the park? Also saw that there is camping at Calispell Peak? I can't make it to the trail ride so thought I'd check with this group and see if anyone knows...just in case they set up another one that I can go to...
Thanks! --Kris

I don't know if these directions will help, but our Mule Club is having a trail ride there Aug 28-29. Everyone is welcome, horses as well . If you have any questions send me a message. In it's place John Hammel and Bob Graham have scheduled a ride at Calispell Meadows out of Chewelah. (Calispell Basin on the map). Directions: 17 miles northeast of Chewelah. At the north end of Chewelah as the street takes a natural curve to the left there is a guard rail on the right side of the road. At the end of the guard rail is Sand Canyon Road. Go right on Sand Canyon Rd. There is a sign for a storage facility and is the road to the gold course. Set your odometer @ zero otherwise it is a total of 17 mi from Chewelah. @ 8.7 mi to the end of the pavement. 8.8 mi to a cattle guard. 9.9 mi to second cattle guard. 1.3 mi to the chewelah Cr campground on right. 11.5 mi to junction with Phillips Lake. Stay right. 12.2 mi to a junction stay left. 12.4 mi to 3rd cattle guard. 13.1 mi to a junction stay left. Another cattle guard. 15.1 mi to junction stay to the right. 15.3 mi to a junction stay to the left. 17.0 calispell Meadows (about 70 acre) on the right. We'll try to camp near the trees. There is a creek running near the meadow for watering your stock. Arrive as early as Fri, loop ride starts at 10 am Saturday (3-4 hr ride) to Phillips Lake, we will be on trails and old roads and is fairly level. Of course, a potluck Saturday evening, then a 10 am (3-4 hr) ride Sunday to Calispel Peak and back.

That is a huge help, thank you for the wonderful directions! I'll run up there this afternoon and check it out. :-) Would love to make the end-of-the-month ride if I can. Thanks again!

We just got back from a trip to Calispell Meadows. What a great place! Was a beautiful drive, and other than not seeing the first cattle guard (lots of road dust in its cracks so it was smooth & we didn't feel it; we were so busy looking around we didn't see it) we found the Meadows easily.
Great spots at Chewelah Creek campground too...really nice creek right alongside parking in some places. We didn't have time to explore further but we're going to go back up soon and check out Phillips Lake and Calispell Peak.
There were four nice, friendly guys on gorgeous mules at the Meadows; they stopped when we did, and chatted with my husband. They invited us to the Mule Club ride even after they asked and we told them we have horses ;D.

Glad you found it. Did you get any names of they guys with the mules? It was probably our mule club members scoping it out for the end of the month. Great group of people. Hope to see you there.
