We've just received word hubby will be the ROTC commander at GU so will be NEW to the area this summer. Your comments and assistance MUCH appreciated.
After being in the Sonoran Desert (Tucson, AZ) 3 years, we're excited to get back to good ol' 4 season weather. Yes, I love snow. My mare spent her 1st 3 years in Reno, she melts in the heat too.
I have a 6 y/o Classical Spanish Arab, Beloved 1 (Lovey) in training "forward motion" WP (pleasure, equitation, trail); showing is a VERY new endeavor for me, I've been in one Open Breed show; intermediate rider western, training level dressage (lessons), which is another goal with Lovey; and let's not forget trail riding. 1st horse at 27, I'm 54; Still have 2 horse friends from that 1st time and other more recent horse buds about the country.
I was born loving horses, but bicycles were my first bikes (a friend wasn't allowed to ride my trike because 'horsie" was
"resting");
1st horse was a 17.1h thoroughbred. I don't know why, I'm 5'2"; 2nd was my soul pony an Arab-QH cross. Then a gap and I've had a Wayne Newton bred son of *GG Samir & grandson of *Aramus whom I lost too early at 20; and another Spanish related mare who after 4 years of trying could not get sound. Sigh.
Lovey's Sire Exodus 1+// (1990) has many wins in Regional/US/ Canadian Nationals in working hunter, hunter hack, sport horse under saddle, and has high scores in dressage; her dam *Pascion S (1994) was the Spanish National Futurity Champ as 1,2 & 3 yr old; gdam *Iberia's (1986) wins include Canadian National Working Hunter and she was a reserve champ WP in 2009. Point being Lovey comes from healthy, long-living performance stock, so I'm looking forward to many years of a variety of activities with her.
I enjoy trail classes in particular because I love the Arab mind; watching them figure it out. The challenge is, once they know, or even think they know it, they want to do it themselves and not wait for your cue. It's such a success when we work through a problem on the trail together. Last week was our first water crossing. A large puddle actually (drying AZ spring creek).
Online search has yielded good candidates for DVM, Equine Chiropractor. And a couple for a boarding/training facility, but not knowing the area, I REALLY would appreciate comments and suggestions (private comments if you want kinchaser@juno.com). I know there may be many spots that don't turn up online.
The PERFECT facility #1 has loving, caring staff; arena, 2-lessons for me; 3-trainer for Lovey who is gentle and skilled in working on muscle balance and collection (Love had a fall young and cantering is still in development) and 4-has trail access. (Currently there is 5500 acres of Catalina State Park behind my barn). Last, but NOT least, 5-'barn folk' that enjoy each other's company and companionship. This is the first locale I've had ALL, so I understand it's a balance of needs.
There appears to be many breed and activity clubs in the area, which suggests an active horse community. That's exciting.
I look forward to talking to and getting to know the folks here.
Thanks for listening.
